I’d been promising myself for a while that I’d head up to Edinburgh, and the first week of August saw me doing just that. I selected some first class tickets on the East Coast mainline and booked an amazing hotel room (which was the cheapest in edinburgh by a long shot) at the Caledonian Hilton – which included the Caley bar with over 250 whiskeys - I enjoyed just one in the bar, a lovely 30 year old single malt, and I had an incredible view from my room. It was an enjoyable trip, where I spent time with newly edinburghian Andrew from work, Chris and Claira. I also shot a roll of Kodachrome slide film in an Olympus Trip 35 camera from 1975 – the results can be found here.
I spent an enjoyable afternoon with Kris at Whitby via York the week after and had a lovely catch up chat and also a great fishcake, chips and gravy on the pier-side.
I also won some vouchers at Harrisons cameras in Sheffield and treated myself to a lomo fisheye camera, which I’ve been enjoying greatly since I got it – I imagine the novelty will wear off soon, but not before I’ve run a few more rolls of film through it.
My colleague, Jo, left for a different role in the university, taking the old job of recently departed to “that london” Marc. This means I’m back on my tod again in the faculty. Having said that, things are going quite well at the moment, having seen record gains in the stuff I’m promoting in terms of numbers but also student satisfaction. The only way is up? Or possibly out.
I’m writing this, well aware that August isn’t over yet, we have the bank holiday still to go. Plans still haven’t been finalised, but I’m hoping for some train rides, and some war re-enactments at the park, then possibly Alton Towers on Tuesday..
